Boléro

Paris, the roaring twenties. We follow Maurice Ravel, who at that time was seen as the most important (still living) composer in the country. He is working on a composition for Ida Rubinstein, an extravagant Russian choreographer. It has to be something exciting, erotic and daring. But while the city bustles, Ravel remains quiet.

He loses himself in self-criticism and in memories of previous failures. He hears inspiration all around him, but he can't get anything down on paper. The closer the deadline approaches, the greater his writer's block becomes. Until suddenly there is a rhythm and an exciting, sensual melody that forms the basis for what has become his world-famous masterpiece: the Boléro.

Boléro is an elegant biopic of the man behind the famous music, with a charismatic performance by Raphaël Personnaz.
