Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti & Frank Rosaly | MESTIZX
Frank Rosaly and Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti share musical roots within the Latinx scene of Bolivia, Brazil and Puerto Rico. On their debut album ''MESTIZX'' they join forces as composers, arrangers and musicians.
With references to free jazz, electronica, Chicago post-rock, bomba, plena, cumbia, ambient, Andes, minimal, noise, punk and folk, the record illustrates different sides of a decolonialization process in a loose, eclectic and festive story. The music points to the richness of ritual gatherings, recognizing them as an intrinsic form of resilience and resistance, but also as a necessity that most people seek - in church, in rituals, the dance club, music festivals and other gatherings.
An atmosphere of their native ecology appears throughout the record. Various dance traditions from the Caribbean and the Andes emerge. The music is shaped to represent Latin cultures and is deeply woven into the fabric of an eccentric story.
In this project, Ibelisse and Frank collaborate with international musicians and beloved friends in a collective ensemble of festive protest music: Matt Lux, master drummer Avreeayl Ra, Ben LaMar Gay, Daniel Villarreal, Bill Mackay, Rob Frye, Mikel Patrick Avery, Chris Doyle, Guilherme Granado, Viktor Le Givens & Fredy Velásquez.
