Wester Theater

A place for young and old with various large and smaller rooms and modern offices with a mix of history.

On November 21, 1919, the Wester Bioscoop Theater, designed by Karl Weisbard, was opened at Nieuwe Binnenweg 316 in Rotterdam. With 1200 seats, it was one of the largest theaters of its time. It was also at this location that a sound film was shown for the first time in Rotterdam's history. In 1931, the Wester Bioscoop Theater was renovated and reopened as the Capitol Theater.

As one of the few theaters that survived the bombings of the Second World War, the Capitol Theater became one of the most important cinemas in our city in the 1950s. In 1962, the cinema started its third life as GRAND Theater. The balcony was converted by the new owner Tuschinski into a second hall: called Studio '62. At the beginning of 1980, the cinema came into the hands of the church and in 2023 it resumed its original name Wester Theater.
