Large collection of trees, shrubs, perennials, bulbs and tubers
Trompenburg is a beautifully designed botanic garden (20 acres) boasting a large collection of trees, shrubs, perennials, bulbs and tubers. Located in the district of Kralingen just outside Rotterdam city centre, this is a real treasure trove for any plant lover and an oasis of tranquillity for walkers away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Due to this special collection Trompenburg is also acknowledged as museum and municipal monument.
The garden is diverse; there are traditional English-style gardens, a food forest in development, but also a desert greenhouse with cacti and succulents. The first construction of the gardens took place about 200 years ago.
Activities
Trompenburg offers activities throughout the year, for example Sunday afternoon guided walks, workshops and lectures. Annually there are four big events: Annuals for Sale, The Spring Plant Days, The Autumn Fair and The Christmas Market.
