The Ferry House

Language is everywhere. We think, read, text, tweet, dream, argue, declare love, talk, work and learn with and thanks to language. We use it all the time, every day. Without language we are nowhere. Het Veerhuis will be a place where language is celebrated in every possible way. The Veerhuis is an initiative of the Droom en Daad Foundation.

The Veerhuis story

Since its construction in 1917, the RDM Veerhuis has been a connection to another world: the RDM area on the other side of the Maas. It is the place where mainly workers cross the road to work every day. The architecture of Baanders is reminiscent of a Swiss chalet and the building has always stood in contrast to its surroundings: an 'island' in the city. Architects Donna van Milligen Bielke and Ard de Vries return the Veerhuis to its original design through a restoration and carefully add the world of today and tomorrow. In this way, the Veerhuis becomes an oasis on the Maas where everyone can write, listen and learn.
