Stichting Lokaal

The LOKAAL Rotterdam Foundation was founded in 1994 by the Rotterdam city council with the aim of reducing the distance between Rotterdam residents and municipal politics and improving the relationship between the residents of Rotterdam and their city government.

LOKAAL is the center for democracy in Rotterdam. This is based on the idea that, especially in a city like Rotterdam with the most diverse population in the Netherlands, local democracy must be permanently maintained. More than ever, there is a need for skills and abilities to be able to live in this city with these differences.

We believe in and stand for an open and sharp conversation with the city, in which the direct, vibrant influence is visible and Rotterdam's democracy is given lasting direction. That is the mission of LOCAL. Independence, neutrality, accessibility and curiosity are our core values.
