Markthal (Market Hall)

The Markthal in Rotterdam is a residential and retail building with an indoor market hall.

An icon of Rotterdam

The Markthal is one of Rotterdam's icons. You can find this hoof-shaped building, designed by MVRDV, on the Binnenrotte since 2014. In the covered food hall, you can enjoy food and drinks from all over the world, both at the various stands and the restaurants located here.

Overwhelming artwork

As soon as you step inside the Markthal through the glass facade, you are overwhelmed by the sight of the Horn of Plenty. The entire inside of the building is covered with this gigantic 11,000-square-metre artwork. It is a colourful still life showcasing fruit, vegetables, flowers, architecture and more. You'll discover new things every time you look at it!

Living above a food hall

What makes the Markthal extra special is the combination of living and shopping. The covered market is the center of the building and it's surrounded by apartments and penthouses. The residents have a view into the food hall from their homes.

Accessibility

The Markthal is located next to Blaak station with metro, train and tram stops. There is a car park underneath the Markthal.
