Essenburg Park
Rotterdam is the city of community gardens. Especially in Rotterdam West - between the Maas and the Schie - hundreds of residents have worked together to create small oases in the city, from picking garden to playground.
Versatile garden
Essenburg Park, located between the railway and the city, was abandoned for a long time. Now residents from neighboring neighborhoods aim to transform this area into Essenburg Park, a new city park approximately 900 meters long and 100 meters wide. The park, located between the Essenburgsingel and the railway line, includes the Spoortuin and Pluktuin, where residents are actively involved in the management. The Spoortuin offers adventurous paths along the canal, a vegetable garden and play areas, while the Pluktuin is a city orchard with fruit trees, a water garden and various neighborhood activities, open to the public on Saturdays from April to October.
In addition, there are other green oases in the area, including the Speeldernis behind the Mevlana Mosque, where children can romp and celebrate parties. The Heemraadsplein and surrounding area offer playground fun and activities such as Singeldingen in the Heemraadspark. The Cool tot Terhave estate on the Coolhaven and the Garden on the Pier in the Lloydkwartier also offer relaxing green spaces in the city, where residents come together and recreate.
