Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen is the first publicly accessible art depot in the world. The iconic, mirrored building designed by architectural firm MVRDV is located in the Museumpark.

The world's first accessible art depot

Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen stores and cares for the entire art collection and offers visitors a look behind the scenes of the museum. The depot contains fourteen climate-controlled compartments with racks, shelves and cabinets for all the different works of art. There are depots for paintings, metals, organic and inorganic materials, black-and-white and colour photography. From the floors, the stairs and the lift you can view the works of art from all sorts of angles. You can also join a guided tour, which also takes you inside a depot space.

More than 154,000 works of art

The collection of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is world famous. This collection has been growing since 1849 and currently consists of more than 154,000 works of art, of which approximately 89,000 prints and drawings. Of this collection, only about eight percent was shown in the monumental museum building. The largest part was stored away, spread over many depots that are closed to the public. In Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen you see everything together, based on climatological requirements and not on art movement or time.

Green roof with terrace

On the top floor of the Depot you will find restaurant Renilde . During the day the museum café, in the evening a special restaurant with panoramic views over Rotterdam. From here you have access to the green roof with trees, grasses and sedum plants, where the terrace of Renilde is also located.

Rental of rooms

Restaurant Renilde and the adjacent hall Coert are available for private events. Coert has room for 100 guests in a theatre setting and 120 guests for a dinner.
