When you discover De Tempel Country Estate in Oud-Overschie, you won't believe your eyes!
About the area
Country estate De Tempel and the adjacent Nieuw Rhodenrijs are one of the last preserved country estates on the outskirts of Rotterdam in Oud-Overschie. Both were founded to escape the troubled city. Even now you can relax here from the hustle and bustle of everyday life; wander through the centuries-old avenues, enjoy the birds, stinsen plants and sculpture collection.
The Temple is a characteristic example of an early eighteenth-century country estate with a classicist design with a geometric garden, with which the owner - in this case the mayor of Rotterdam - expressed his status.
The Baroque gardens and statues have disappeared from many country estates. When a new garden style came into fashion, it often replaced the other. What is special about this place is that the then owners allowed the garden styles to coexist. The different garden styles, such as the 18th century geometric style, the 19th century landscape style, and the early 20th century architectural garden style, can be found here, so you can literally walk through different garden styles. Part of the original and nationally valuable sculpture collection is also still there.
