Anyone who enters De Ouwehoer does not get the feeling that they are in a relatively new café. But nothing is less true. This cafe has been around for less than a decade. The light is muted, the walls are dark red. One wall is full of deer antlers, with here and there a painting of a half-naked lady. The bar presents a gigantic whiskey collection. As if the sailors have just left.
But in the famous Katendrecht this was indeed one of the hundreds of bars. Café de Ouwehoer is a nod to times gone by. Sex, drugs and Rock & Roll were inextricably linked to Katendrecht. But what was that actually like?
