Unique one-off screening of Nickel Boys at LantarenVenster and KINO
Originally, the film was not to be released, but thanks to a special collaboration, Nickel Boys can still be seen in cinemas once. On 21 March, the International Day Against Racism, KINO and LantarenVenster will screen the moving film.
The film is based on Pulitzer Prize-winner Colson Whitehead's award-winning book. It tells the story of Elwood Curtis, a young African-American boy who ends up at the infamous Nickel Academy in the 1960s due to systemic racism. His hopes and ideals are severely tested there. The film offers a penetrating look at racial inequality in the past, bridging to the social issues of today.
The special screening is part of a nationwide campaign coordinated by the National Coordinator against Discrimination and Racism (NCDR). Film theatres across the Netherlands are using this day to raise awareness and stimulate the conversation about racism and social justice.
At LantarenVenster, the screening will be preceded by a spoken word performance by Daniela Jerez on behalf of Spraakuhloos.
