To the sauna overlooking the Rijnhaven

In Scandinavia, friends go to small-scale sauna's to catch up and have fun. Similar to going to the pub together in the Netherlands. After two years of living in the Norwegian forests, the two initiators: Willem Buijs and Daan Grooten, decided to establish saunas in Dutch cities as well. The ninth location in the Netherlands is on the Rijnhaven opposite Fenix Food Factory. A sauna with stunning views of both Hotel New York and the Erasmus Bridge.

In cities such as Oslo, Helsinki, Stockholm and Copenhagen, small-scale and uniquely designed saunas are already part of the scene. Warm up in a sauna before or after work and then take a sweaty dip in natural water. Sauna is enjoying a revival in Scandinavia. A city like Oslo alone has more than ten such saunas. Kuuma raised €350,000 through a crowdfunding campaign this year.

Sweating together

initiator Daan Grooten says: ''It is time to bring the Scandinavian way of no-nonsense sauna to the Netherlands. Sweating together and taking a dip is part of everyday life there. In the Netherlands, we really only know the large-scale wellness complexes with a focus mainly on silence and health.''

''With Kuuma, we offer city residents a medicine against the winter dip,'' adds co-founder Willem Buijs. ''Whereas people race from A to B in the dark wet days and actually want to be outside as little as possible, we see visitors to Kuuma standing in the rain in their swimming trunks with a smile in the most depressed months of the year."

Kuuma cooperates with (catering) partners to offer a sauna experience in the most unique places. Guests can thus combine a visit to the sauna with a snack or a drink. Kuuma has a first in the Netherlands with its fully autonomous and movable sauna. The saunas are manufactured in-house in Oslo and in the workshop in Arnhem. The design allows Kuuma to offer a sauna experience in the most unique places, both in the city and in nature. The sauna is minimalist in design but equipped with all conveniences, such as the ability to play your own music.
