The Fat Fox is the new gastropub on the Schiedamse Vest
The owners of The Iron Lady on Pannekoekstraat both have a penchant for English pub culture. Cheerful and friendly meeting places serving attractively priced food. With The Fat Fox, Faruk Dervis and Darryl Peijnenborgh open a modern version with pub grub to share. There is an offer of meat, fish and veg such as mussels in red curry, chips with Chorizo and scrambled egg Japanese style, Burrata di Puglia with grapes and gremolata of pine nuts and, of course, a Flat Iron Steak, among others. There is also an extensive cocktail menu (or as they call it: Foxtails), beers from Stella Artois and Goose Island, among others, and over a hundred whiskeys.
Coincidence brought Faruk Dervis and Darryl Peijnenborgh together. Faruk (46) started restaurant The Iron Lady in February 2020, and was able to close it down after four weeks. Due to corona, he also lost his business partner two years later. Darryl (25), of South African origin and born in Walvis Bay (Namibia), has worked in the hospitality industry since he was 15. He cooked in starred establishments but had only one dream: his own business. This dream suddenly came within reach at The Iron Lady. Their restaurant on Pannekoekstraat has been a success and with The Fat Fox, they are adding an atmospheric foxhole to the city.
