Sting, Raye and Black Pumas at North Sea Jazz 2024
North Sea Jazz has announced the first names. Sting, Black Pumas, Jamie Cullum, Joss Stone and Vulfpeck will make their appearance in Rotterdam this year. As will Brittany Howard, Candy Dulfer with special guest Jonathan Butler, Christone 'Kingfish' Ingram, Ibrahim Maalouf, Lizz Wright, Mahalia, Masego, Raye and Tems. Also performing are jazz greats such as Avishai Cohen, Joshua Redman and John Scofield & Dave Holland. Meshell Ndegeocello is Artist in Residence. The festival takes place on 12, 14 and 14 July, in Ahoy, of course. Check the site for the latest info.
The festival presents a number of special jazz projects. Such as the new quartet of tenor saxophonist Chris Potter, pianist Brad Mehldau, bassist John Patitucci and drummer Johnathan Blake. And Something Else! with Vincent Herring, Binker Golding, Jeremy Pelt, David Kikoski , Paul Bollenback, Essiet Essiet and Lewis Nash. Cuban pianist and composer Chucho Valdés celebrates the 50th anniversary of his Afro-Cuban jazz group Ikare. And Shai Maestro performs with the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw.
As usual, the festival also introduces new, emerging artists. For instance, Amaro Freitas, D.K. Harrell, Kymara, Lander & Adriaan, Laura Misch, Lawrence and Veronica Swift will make their debut in Rotterdam this year.
