Sinfonia Rotterdam celebrates 25th anniversary with festive concerts
Sinfonia Rotterdam is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a special series of concerts! The dynamic chamber orchestra conducted by Conrad van Alphen combines well-known classical works with surprising new compositions at free pop-up concerts in the city on 13 March. On Friday 14 March, there will be a concert in de Doelen with works by Rossini, Oscher and Mendelssohn with flamboyant French trumpeter Lucienne Renaudin Vary as guest musician. Tickets are available via this link. An already sold-out concert at the World Museum will follow on 16 March.
The anniversary concerts open with Rossini's Sonata for Strings, the work with which the first concert was given in 2000. Then the energetic French trumpeter Lucienne Renaudin Vary joins the orchestra for EfraĆn Oscher's rhythmic Rapsodia Latina. The evening closes with Mendelssohn's scintillating Italian symphony, which began Van Alphen's conducting career.
Van Alphen looks back on the orchestra's journey: ''Sinfonia Rotterdam was born from the ambition to create an independent and flexible chamber orchestra that, because of its size and manoeuvrability, is easily deployable at different venues and brings music to a wide and diverse audience. I am proud that what started as an idea and first elaboration in the shed in my backyard has grown into an orchestra that performs internationally. From grand concerts in iconic concert halls to pop-up concerts in special public venues in the middle of the city."
