KRO-NCRV opens Pointer pop-up in Witte de Withstraat

Pointer is KRO-NCRV's platform for investigative journalism on TV, radio and online. TV and radio makers, data journalists and researchers bring revealing, in-depth stories, with social impact. Regularly, the editors settle temporarily in a city. In November, the Pointer pop-up editors are doing research in Rotterdam. From a pop-up shop in the Witte de Withstraat, the editorial team, together with research platform Vers Beton, Open Rotterdam and the residents of Rotterdam, will delve into issues that play a role in Rotterdam.

On Monday 4 November, the editors will introduce themselves to Rotterdammers during the Pointer meet-up at the Library Theatre. The theme of this meet-up is the state of education. The presentation is in the hands of KRO-NCRV presenter Niels Heithuis. The keynote lecture will be given by Karim Amghar, programme maker and author of the book Hear Me, See Me! He shares his insights on equity in education and what it takes to achieve it. More information and register via this link.

Pim Peterse, coordinator of the Pointer pop-up: ''For the first time, we chose a big city to do research. Partly because we have been working with our media partner Vers Beton for years. Rotterdam was one of the first municipalities to start the National Programme Rotterdam-South (NPRZ). The programme started in 2014 and aims to give Rotterdam-Zuid a boost and make the neighbourhood more attractive for residents and businesses. In Leeuwarden East, Heerlen North and the last municipality where the pop-up editorial team was active, Lelystad, a National Programme is also trying to catch up with socio-economic disadvantages. Interesting to see what that has achieved in Rotterdam. The Witte de Withstraat, where the pop-up is located, is in the cultural centre of Rotterdam. That's a nice base of operations, but that's not where residents from Rotterdam-South come. The researchers will therefore move into the neighbourhoods in Rotterdam-South and West.''
