Joe Hisaishi makes Dutch debut with Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra
In March 2025, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra welcomes one of the biggest names in Japanese contemporary music: composer and conductor Joe Hisaishi. For the first time in his career, Hisaishi will conduct a concert in the Netherlands. On Friday 28 and Saturday 29 March, he will take audiences in de Doelen on an enchanting musical journey through his own works, culminating in music from the iconic animated film Spirited Away. Tickets for the concerts are available now via this link.
Joe Hisaishi is acclaimed worldwide for his compositions for films such as Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Howl's Moving Castle, Kiki's Delivery Service and Ponyo, which have touched generations of viewers and won numerous international awards. Hisaishi's compositions are characterised by rich melodies, deep emotion and a sophisticated balance between Western and Japanese musical elements, making his work a cultural phenomenon.
In Rotterdam, Hisaishi will take the stage together with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and conduct a breathtaking programme. Featuring a composition by Maurice Ravel (La valse) and Adagio for strings and two harps and Spirited Away Suite by Hisaishi himself.
