German cellist Benedict Kloeckner guest of Sinfonia Rotterdam
Sinfonia Rotterdam will play the first concert of the new season on Sunday afternoon 26 January in Grote Zaal of de Doelen. For this, the internationally renowned German cellist Benedict Kloeckner will be its guest. Conducted by conductor Conrad van Alphen, the orchestra with Kloeckner and trainee players from Codarts and the Royal Conservatoire will perform compositions by Wagner, Dvořák and Brahms. Tickets for the concert are available via available through Sinfonia Rotterdam's website.
The afternoon opens with Richard Wagner's rarely played first concert overture. Next, Benedict Kloeckner performs Dvořák's cello concerto, a composition known for its almost symphonic grandeur. After an intermission, the orchestra closes with Brahms' third symphony, a work that reflects the composer's philosophy and depth.
Cello prodigy
Benedict Kloeckner is an alumnus of the prestigious Kronberg Academy and has won numerous awards, including the OPUS Klassik in 2021. He is also founder and artistic director of the Koblenz International Music Festival. Kloeckner plays a Ruggeri cello from 1680.
Collaboration with Codarts and the Royal Conservatoire
One of Sinfonia Rotterdam's goals is to act as a springboard for young professionals in the classical genre. In October 2024, founder and conductor Conrad van Alphen, assistant conductor Mikel Fernández and concertmaster Cordelia Paw selected the 12 best players from more than 80 auditionees to perform this monumental programme with the orchestra.
Classical concert for all
Sinfonia Rotterdam aims to be there for everyone, regardless of age, musical knowledge or income. This is why there is a standard youth discount for visitors up to 26 years old and no grades are applied. During the interval, a free drink will be available for every visitor. A programme booklet with more information about the pieces, also free of charge, is offered at each concert.
