Experience Rotterdam's architecture from dawn to dusk

Architects, guides, residents and artists will show Rotterdam from fresh and innovative perspectives during the third Dag en Nacht van de Architectuur from fresh and innovative perspectives with tours, workshops, music, film and performances. On Saturday 15 June, the city can be experienced differently at every moment of the day. In the morning with sunrise on the Weena or breakfast with landscape architect Adriaan Geuze in the Museumpark. On the Lloydpier, young architects and innovative new buildings take centre stage, and in the evening several Rotterdam classics, such as the Bijenkorf and the Hef, can be visited. In total, over 30 locations are participating in the event.

Thirty years after the construction of the first towers, the Weena is at a new tipping point: with numerous new plans, the area will look completely different in a few years. Familiar buildings and future designs are highlighted with a variety of morning and afternoon tours. Wander through W70, the former building of Stad Rotterdam Verzekeringen, where theatre group Jan Vos plays a dynamic play full of inspiring stories. Technikon - the distinct design by architect Huig Maaskant - can also be visited. Long-stored competition models in the Delft Gate demonstrate what the building could have looked like. And from C93, you can see through the iconic oval windows how the city keeps getting taller.

Through the eyes of architects

On the Lloydpier, architects show you how the industrial port area is transforming into a popular residential area with transformed warehouses, old harbour monuments and innovative new buildings. Discover the Babel residential tower with award-winning architect Laurens Boodt, join Architectuur MAKEN to the green oasis of the Eden District and, together with Mei Architecten, get to know SAWA: the first all-wood residential building in Rotterdam surrounded by green terraces and nesting boxes for biodiversity.

Classics by Night

As night falls, Rotterdam's classics are on show. On Coolsingel, the iconic Holbeinhuis opens its doors after renovation and the Bijenkorf is taken over after closing time by a new generation of dance artists from RIDCC. At the Van Nellefabriek, a musical interlude will take you back in time. In the Museumpark, too, there is plenty to do in the evening. Enjoy an AFFR science fiction classic in the Henket Pavilion of the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen or sip a cocktail in style in the garden of the Chabot Museum. De Hef is also accessible on this special night: climb the bridge and watch the city's lights sparkle across the water. At that point, the evening has only just begun and a night programme that highlights the city from other perspectives awaits.

The Day and Night of Architecture Rotterdam is organised by OMI Rotterdam and is part of Rotterdam Architecture Month.
