Celebrate the flavours and cultures of Africa at the African Food Festival

After the success of the first edition, the African Food Festival returns to Rotterdam, celebrating African cuisine, music, art and culture. On Saturday 20 July, you can enjoy a culinary experience at Schouwburgplein. The festival combines street food with the traditional cuisine of Africa and offers a wide range of authentic dishes, including halal options.

African specialities

Count on dishes from various African countries and regions such as Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Angola, Congo, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Cape Verde and more. Vegan specialities and new fusion food concepts will also be served. The festival aims to introduce people to the diversity and refreshing flavours of Africa. Various workshops will also be organised, including: beat making; darbourka (djembe); diaspora painting; African soap making.

Divergent performances

Music and dance lovers can enjoy African music styles at the festival with headliners including bands Tabanka, Basile and Adasamma. Afro House and Afrobeat DJs will further enhance the atmosphere, and performances by Tunisian rappers are planned. In addition, you can get inspired by the storytelling of two Spoken Word artists.

Market, exhibition and dance battle

The atmosphere at the festival is further enriched by a mix of cultural elements such as the African Market, where African entrepreneurs showcase their products. Black-owned businesses there sell products such as jewellery, fashion, spices, decorations and more. There will also be a Sahara exhibition and the 'New Generation African' exhibition by photographer Kevin Domfeh, along with Unity in Diversity's exhibition with the theme 'We don't miss Our Country as much as we miss Our Family'. Don't miss the highlight of the festival: the dance battle 'Afro Taste', where participants will showcase their skills in a competition.
