Box Social Rotterdam opened on 2nd Middellandstraat

Australia has a vibrant, multicultural brunch culture. Childhood friends Alex Than Aye and Yudhi Srinivasan from down under opened their first all-day bistro concept Box Sociaal in Amsterdam seven years ago. There, they now have two branches and now there is also a Box Sociaal in the Nieuwe Westen area of Rotterdam. The concept offers proven classics, a spacious sun terrace, Guinness on tap and new locally inspired dishes. Box Sociaal is open Thursday to Sunday from 9am to 10pm.

Box Social is all about high-quality ingredients, comfort food with a twist and a strong focus on hospitality. Almost everything is made in-house: from home-baked sourdough bread to home-smoked toppings and sauces.

Starting in the morning, brunch dishes available include The Kater Breakfast Sandwich, The Parmy (breaded chicken topped with marinara and melted mozzarella), Shak Attack (a homemade shakshuka), Catch of the (Holland)days (fishcake of smoked salmon and mackerel with a Hollandaise) and Kim's Tacos (Korean tacos with fried chicken). In the evening, there is a dinner menu with partly the same dishes but also a Flat Iron Steak and Grandmas Burmese Chicken Curry. The cocktail menu features creations such as a Bloody Oath Sambal Mary and a Stroopwafel Espresso Martini.

A terrace with 100 seats

Alex: "In Australia, eating out is about being together, relaxing and enjoying good food and drink, without too much fuss. Even though Rotterdam and Sydney are more than 16,500 kilometres apart, the Rotterdam laidback vibe feels exactly the same."

The interior of Box Social Rotterdam, designed by Ninetynine Interior Design Studio, exudes warmth and playfulness. Wooden accents, modern details and a relaxed vibe create the perfect setting. Box Sociaal Rotterdam also features a terrace with 100 seats and sun from all sides.

Alex: "Rotterdam has given us a very warm welcome in every way. So we want to offer more than just a place where people come for something to eat and drink. We want to be a beating heart for the neighbourhood. A place where everyone can pop in, whether for a good brunch, a romantic dinner, a festive drink or just a few hours of fun in the sun. With so many large, internationally oriented companies in the neighbourhood, we can cater perfectly to the needs of expats and business guests. From bespoke lunches to get-togethers and business meetings - we have the space and atmosphere to make it happen."
