Blijdorp zoo launches interactive experience

With Expedition Blijdorp, Blijdorp Zoo is the first zoo in the Netherlands to launch an interactive experience focusing on education and game elements. As soon as the visitor enters Blijdorp, the app opens a world full of routes, challenges, stories and home assignments.

With the innovative app, the Zoo combines physical encounters with animals with digital challenges. An educational adventure that makes experiencing the park and its inhabitants even more educational. Visitors click open the app, choose an expedition they like and start their educational journey. By answering questions and completing challenges, they can save up for badges, discounts, fun physical pins and special extras. Like tagging along with animal keepers.

In the modern zoo, education is an essential part of making visitors aware of their role in protecting nature. With Expedition Blijdorp, visitors become active explorers. During the personalised expeditions, they learn about special residents and discover how they themselves can contribute to a sustainable future. It is this education and interaction that makes every step in the zoo even more fun, exciting and relevant. By completing the various expeditions and home assignments, one gets closer to the next level each time. From 'Explorer' via 'Lover' and 'Expert' to the ultimate goal: 'Protector'.

Also at home

After visiting the zoo, people can also discover exclusive content via Expedition Blijdorp. For example, via webcams and special updates on nature. One can also continue at home with DIY projects such as building an insect hotel or participate in citizen science.

New course

The launch of Expedition Blijdorp fits seamlessly with the new direction of Blijdorp Zoo. Visitors discover how nature works and are confronted with the challenges surrounding nature restoration and species conservation. By means of this form of edutainment, the Rotterdam Zoo not only offers more experience, but also tools to get started themselves. And that is necessary, because only together can we make a difference.
