Art Central Rotterdam XL presents exhibition in the Koopgoot
Art Central Rotterdam XL 's new exhibition Beurstraverse: an ounce of information is worth a pound of data is tailored to the specific location of the exhibition spaces, on the Beurstraverse, and the associated dynamics of this place.
The exhibition opens on 2 February and is part of Rotterdam Art Week. It will take place at two locations of De Goot, a new cultural stage on the Beurstraverse and part of shopping area the Koopgoot. The exhibition is a collaboration of over 50 leading Rotterdam art galleries, institutions and artists.
The exhibition will take place in De Goot, a new cultural venue part of shopping area the Koopgoot in the centre of Rotterdam. The choice of this venue is linked to the aim of Art Central Rotterdam XL (an initiative by Muriel Mager, Kiki Petratou and Erika Vati ) to make art accessible to a wider audience. The Beurstraverse is a central place where different people and means of transport come together. This makes the exhibition viewable to people who would otherwise never see it.
Beurstraverse is an important hub
Marijn Bril, curator of Art Central Rotterdam XL, says of the exhibition: "As the former financial heart of Rotterdam and now a commercial centre, the Beurstraverse is an important hub in a network. The exhibition builds on this context and examines the various economic, transport and information systems that converge here. From the stock exchange with buyers and sellers, global trade driven by supply and demand, to the internet with its users, servers and websites. These interconnected systems are characterised by complexity. Like cogs in a machine, the works in the exhibition explore feedback, control and errors at a time characterised by interconnectivity and rapid technological change. Do we control our systems, or do they control us?"
