
Ambrose Akinmusire, Herbie Hancock and Ronnie Flex & The Fam also heading for NN North Sea Jazz Festival
NN North Sea Jazz announces new names again for this year's edition on 11, 12 and 13 July in Ahoy. Among others, Herbie Hancock, ANOHNI & The Johnsons, Celeste, Cory Wong and Lee Ritenour will also be present. Ronnie Flex & The Fam will perform a special rendition of the album Rémi with big live band and new arrangements. Ticket sales have started.
The festival welcomes well-known jazz artists such as Danilo Perez with John Patitucci & Adam Cruz, Alfredo Rodríguez, Ambrose Akinmusire, Makaya McCraven, Emmmet Cohen and Nubya Garcia. Also jazz projects such as the unusual combination of banjo player Bela Fleck with harpist Edmar Castaneda and drummer Antonio Sanchez.
Terri Lyne Carrington will reinterpret Max Roach's landmark 1960 protest album "We Insist!" featuring Abbey Lincoln with rising star Christie Dashiell. Besides the aforementioned Herbie Hancock and Lee Ritenour, the festival also presents David Murray and WAR after a long absence.
Artists appearing at this year's festival for the first time include American rapper/singer BLK ODYSSY, guitarists Grace Bowers Matteo Mancuso, and Mourning [A] BLKstar, an eight-piece cross-genre collective from Cleveland comprising musicians, writers and multimedia artists.
