Of all climate measures, abolishing subsidies on fossil fuels seems one of the most obvious and simplest. At the same time, experts argue that this is particularly difficult and may actually slow down the energy transition. What are fossil subsidies? What is the size of such subsidies in the Netherlands? What would happen if we abolished them? An evening with researchers, policymakers, politicians and activists.

Heleen de Coninck is professor of Socio-Technical Innovation and Climate Change at Eindhoven University of Technology, deputy chair of the Climate Council. She conducts research into international climate policy.
