Instead of a new t-shirt from the sale, pimp your own old garment the day after Black Friday in BlueCity with paint that is waste-free, 100% natural and unique. None other than fashion designer Roua is coming to Rotterdam to teach you how to color with the power of nature!

Dyeing clothes is one of the most chemical and polluting parts of the clothing industry. To give your clothes a nice bright color, a lot of water and chemical and non-biodegradable substances are used. This has a major environmental impact. Research even shows that approximately 20% of the water pollution on earth is caused by dyeing and finishing textiles. This must and can be done differently!

Coloring with the power of nature

Nature offers us an abundance of materials to dye our clothes: from herbs, flowers, stones, leaves and roots to food scraps. For example, avocado peels give a beautiful pink color, rosemary results in yellow-green and rust metal in gray-purple.

During this workshop Roua will show you how to make beautiful dyes using an age-old natural method. She will go into more detail about the use of natural dyes and how we can design a unique pattern using different techniques.

What are you taking with you?

Old, light white clothing or fabric (note: the fabric must be natural fibers, not polyester)

A ticket for this workshop also gives you access to the rest of the Changez program. Bring unworn and/or broken clothes for the clothing swap and the clothing repair café. Please note: Changez lasts until 16:00, so come and take a look before the workshop.

This workshop is part of the program of Changez, BlueCity's anti-Black Friday event. On Saturday November 30, the day after Black Friday, BlueCity transforms the old Tropicana into a green department store with the largest clothing swap in Rotterdam, a textile repair café, a sustainable market and workshops where we work with nature instead of against it. In this way we make a fist against the polluting shopping frenzy of this time of year.
