Willem Schinkel - Waarom ik geen mobiele telefoon heb. Aphonismen

Lex Bohlmeijer interviews Willem Schinkel about his new book Why I don't have a mobile phone. Aphonisms. With Q&A and subsequent signing.

In Aphonisms, Willem Schinkel compellingly reveals the reasons behind his choice not to own a mobile phone. These notes and aphorisms, which he prefers to call 'aphonisms', offer an astute look at the influence of mobile telecommunications on our lives. Schinkel observes the coercive effect of this infrastructure and reflects on the history of telecommunications.

This book sheds light on the absurdity of electronic communications systems and shows how they have dramatically changed our lives. A stimulating exploration of the digital society.

What are the effects of smartphone addiction?

Willem Schinkel is a sociologist and philosopher, and professor of social theory at Erasmus University Rotterdam. He recently wrote, among others, Political Stenograms, De hamsteraar and Pandemocatie. And, with Rogier van Reekum, Theory of the bead.

'The annoying thing about Willem Schinkel is that he knows how to strip his subjects down to their core so thoroughly that you cannot escape the confrontation with yourself that inevitably follows. In short, he is always right. We've all gone crazy.' — Sef

'The smartphone is a solution to the problem you have when everyone around you has a smartphone.' — Willem Schinkel
