Wilfried de Jong in gesprek met Frank Heinen

Frank Heinen recently published Uit koers 2 – Bijzondere wielerlevens. Wilfried de Jong will discuss this with Frank Heinen and about sports and cycling writing in general. But Wilfried and Frank are above all writers about human fates, writers of stories. And that is the common thread this afternoon. Followed by signing.

Off course 2 - Frank Heinen

Ten years ago, the successful Uit koers 1 was published, in which Frank Heinen rescued more than a hundred cyclists with exceptional lives from oblivion. He does the same in this long-awaited second part, because cycling continued in the meantime, as did the collection of cycling lives with something special going on.

The bicycle may be the common denominator, but it does not always play the leading role. A unique collection of stories about hermits and actors, Nobel Prize winners and bombers, drug lords, singers and brothers-of, about people with too little or too much talent.

For all the riders in the peloton of Uit koers 2, the race was once the most important thing in their existence. Until cycling fell away; and the world in all its diversity entered their lives.

Frank Heinen (1985) is a writer, columnist for the Volkskrant, journalist and creator of the section 'Eindsignaal' for Studio Voetbal. He previously published the successful Uit koers 1, a book about forgotten cyclists, the cycling lexicon De Kleine Heinen, the novel De zaak Tom and 'the bible of forgotten footballers' Buiten delijnen, with which Heinen won the Nico Scheepmaker Cup 2019. The book was named football book of the year by Staantribune and the author himself was named sports journalist of the year by the Dutch Sports Press. Heinen is a regular guest at De Rode Lantaarn, the podcast for cycling viewers, and writes cycling stories for Bahamontes and De Muur.
