Why You Laughing?

The exhibition Why You Laughing? in the showroom of MaMA Rotterdam is an exhibition with accompanying public program about pleasure as a basic right and essential component for well-being and self-love from a Black Queer and Trans perspective.

This exhibition positions joy as a powerful engine for the pursuit of authenticity and happiness – despite the road ahead being paved with obstacles for some.

The exhibition, by multidisciplinary artist, programmer and curator Aisha Bah, celebrates the joy that persists despite opposing forces such as traditional gender norms, racial oppression and heteronormativity, and makes space for authenticity, connection and tranquility, as a right (and not as a merit).

Why You Laughing? explores joy as an inexhaustible source of resistance, healing, and community. Featuring work by: Oreoluwa Akinyode, Rafik Opti, jahi quasim reeberg, Justice Jamal Jones, Ebun Sodipo, and Sondi.
