Wende

In Vrijplaats, Wende goes back to basics. In this performance, Wende changes the track into a sanctuary; a place where everything is possible. Together with keyboard player Nils Davidse, she takes the audience on a journey whose soundtrack consists of nothing more than two pianos and her voice.

Wende's versatility as an artist is unparalleled. She moves effortlessly between different musical styles, ranging from pop and electronic to jazz and classical, and has been combining this for years in groundbreaking, interdisciplinary albums and performances. Her trophy cabinet reflects this diversity: she has won an Edison in almost every category and was nominated for a Golden Calf as an actress.

Sanctuary

Over the past year, Wende has continued to build on her impressive oeuvre. Her new EP Vrijplaats was released at the end of October 2024, with which Wende goes back to basics, just piano and her voice. Everything recorded in one take on one day.

'As long as I can remember, there was a piano in our childhood home. And behind that piano sat my mother. We would play a quatre-mains together, or I would sing songs while she accompanied me. There, sitting behind her piano, she taught me the joy of singing and how to always be curious.'

The EP musically ties in with her show of the same name, with which Wende played an unprecedented number of no less than 19 shows in a completely sold-out Royal Theater Carré. At Vrijplaats in Carré, no evening was the same. Wende surprised the audience with special guest artists and a unique setlist every evening. With a simple concept as the basis: 2 pianos, her voice and an arsenal of beautiful songs.
