Wederopbouwkunst Tour mei 2025

On the occasion of Reconstruction Day, Museum Rotterdam, in collaboration with Platform Wederopbouw Rotterdam and the Reconstruction Museum, is organizing a special Reconstruction Art Tour along the works of art in the Coolhaven.

After the devastating bombing of 14 May 1940, Rotterdam quickly began rebuilding. During this period, not only hundreds of new buildings were built, but more than 670 works of art were also placed in public spaces. These works of art, by famous Rotterdam artists such as Louis van Roode, Gust Romijn and Wally Elenbaas, were made to commemorate the city. But also to beautify the cityscape and express the resilience of Rotterdam.

The area around the Coolhaven was relatively spared during the bombing. During and shortly after the war, much construction took place here and, as was customary, the buildings were provided with visual art.
