Wajdi Riahi Trio
Jazz with bridges to Tunisia. Pianist Wajdi Riahi takes his listeners on a journey through jazz, African and classical music. His trio is virtuoso yet poetic, touching the ground and the sky.
Jazz with bridges to Tunisia. Pianist Wajdi Riahi quickly became one of the most acclaimed voices in Belgian jazz, both alongside Stéphane Galland (Aka Moon) and with his own music.
Wajdi Riahi takes his listeners on a journey through jazz, African and classical music. The pianist was born in Tunis in 1995 and studied Arabic music there before studying jazz piano with Éric Legnini at the Brussels Conservatory. He was a member of the Jazz Club of his hometown and of the groups Darimba and North Afrika. Today, Riahi shines with his own trio with Pierre Hurty on drums and Basile Rahola on bass.
In the sound of his Trio he unites his love for jazz with his Tunisian roots. The result is intoxicating and lyrical, accessible and yet surprising. Their second album Essia is also a whopper of a calling card: the Trio is a keeper that adds an original color to our vibrant scene. On Essia the group mixes jazz with gnawa, stambeli and African rhythms.
