Theme: JUSTICE
Introduction by anthropologist and pedagogue Ruth van de Vrede (South Korea)
Since the 1960s and 1970s, there have been signals, reports and news reports about abuses in international adoptions. In recent years, with various reports in the media and investigation committees set up by European governments, the conclusion can no longer be ignored: international adoption is synonymous with structural abuses; in every country and in every period in which adoptions have taken place, gross human rights violations have been documented. Think of child trafficking, baby farms, kidnappings, unnecessary separation of families, switching children, falsified and destroyed files and other unethical practices. In this light, adoptees are increasingly calling for redress and recognition of all this injustice.
During this talk show, Kelly-Qian van Binsbergen (China) will talk to four writers who contributed to the book 'Beyond Transnational Adoption; a critical and polyphonic dialogue'.
Panel:
Ae Ra Song (South Korea)
Sita van Groesen (Sri Lanka)
Shashitu Rahima Tarirga (Ethiopia)
Shila Khuki de Vries (Bangladesh)
