How do we proceed?

Adoptees had no voice in the process of their adoption. How do we, now that we are adults and have a voice, own our own story? And how do we ensure that the social and political debate on adoption reflects our stories, and not the Western perspective of intended parents? Ownership and autonomy are important steps in the (de-colonial) process towards recognition, justice and recovery. What do we need for this? What will help us further on this path? And what can we do for each other in this?

Writing workshop: “Searching for your own story”

Writer and filmmaker Daan Vree tells how he draws inspiration from his personal adoption and how he has incorporated this into stories. He guides you in exploring your own adoption story through various creative writing assignments.

For whom?

The workshop is intended for anyone who has been adopted and is interested in exploring and appropriating their personal adoption story. Or for anyone who has specific experiences with adoption and wants to learn how to translate them into expressive language. The workshop is particularly suited for beginning writers, but is open to everyone. The format offers structure and space for personal growth, with a balance between sharing experiences and the practical application of creative writing techniques.
