Trombone Ensemble Nabou Claerhout

Five trombonists, guitar, double bass and drums: it is a palette of sound that Nabou Claerhout could only dream of for a long time. Two years ago, the dream came true at the Gent Jazz festival. The group's first album already evoked comparisons with the dynamics of Hypnotic Brass Ensemble and the infectious funk of Fred Wesley, one of Nabou's earliest idols.

Of course it is all about the richly varied music of Nabou herself, but also about the players that the Belgian trombonist has brought together for her ensemble. Despite the unusual line-up of five jazz trombonists, each with a different background, you still get to hear a very homogeneous sound, full of playfulness and small details.

“The goal is to treat you to warm, soft, carrying parts and then discover the spicy and resolute character of the trombone,” says Nabou. “I have tried to make room for each individual. And of course there is also a starring role for the rhythm section.” Her Trombone Ensemble has a crème de la crème line-up of the latest generation from Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and the United Kingdom.
