Trio Tango Extremo

Trio Tango Extremo's repertoire is very broad and very particular in its style. Insights including European and South American folklore, classical music, jazz and Brazilian music are combined with ‘tango nuevo’. In recent years, the group has specialised in music from the Argentine Río de la Plata area and various crossovers from the tango nuevo idiom.

Nationally, the ensemble has managed to carve out a place in Dutch musical life that is hard to imagine: they have played on practically all major and minor concert stages in the Netherlands, ranging from jazz festival to classical concert hall to tango salon.

But also abroad, the trio has been introduced many times, as evidenced by an impressive tour list in Spain, France, Portugal, Belgium, Italy, Mexico, United Kingdom, Turkey, Kurdistan, Ireland, Croatia, Russia, China, South Africa, Botswana, Bolivia, Uruguay, South Korea, Greenland, Iceland, Germany, Switzerland, Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Ecuador and Colombia.

Furthermore, Tango Extremo was the only non-Argentine orchestra to perform at the Buenos Aires Tango Festival in Argentina: the most prestigious tango festival in the world!

It may be clear: since its foundation in 2003, Tango Extremo has experienced a development that can be called remarkable, to say the least. The group was founded by violinist Tanya Schaap, who from then on has been the artistic driving force behind the group.

Line-up:

Tanya Schaap - violin

Jasper Soffers - piano

Marijn van de Ven - double bass

The musicians once studied at Rotterdam's Codarts.
