TRILOGIE VAN KLAAS DE VRIES

2 pianos, 2 harps, 6 percussionists and a huge number of wind instruments: the size of the ensemble is colossal. The cycle consists of 3 pieces: Diafonía la creación with the enchanting voices of two sopranos, Sub nocte per umbras, in which the tension builds further, and the most powerful work, De profundis, which can be seen as the evolved form of the previous pieces. These three works together form a musical journey from myths to confrontation with the inevitability of death.

About Klaas de Vries

On July 15, 2024, Klaas de Vries will turn 80. This leading Dutch composer and former teacher at the conservatory will be put in the spotlight with an unheard of beautiful concert. Klaas de Vries is known for his rich orchestrations and rhythmic complexity, with a focus on polyrhythms and unexpected harmonies. His music is often influenced by literature, theater and philosophy, and he has played an important role in the development of experimental music in the Netherlands.
