Tineke Speksnijder - horecavrouw met hart en ziel in het Rotterdamse uitgaansleven
We discover the fascinating story of Tineke Speksnijder, a prominent Rotterdam hospitality entrepreneur and former owner of Café De Schouw, and hear her vision on the changing hospitality industry in the city.
Tineke Speksnijder is a striking Rotterdam entrepreneur, known as the owner of Café De Schouw on the Witte de Withstraat. Café De Schouw was a popular meeting place for people of all kinds and ages. Art, poetry, gossip and parties - everything was possible in De Schouw. Tineke was also a columnist for De Havenloods for many years, in which she wrote about everyday events, people and of course about her Rotterdam. Always with a good dose of humor. In August 2023, she said goodbye to Café De Schouw and made her dream come true: traveling the world. Tineke's story is a source of inspiration for many. During the city college "Tineke Speksnijder: Hospitality woman with heart and soul in Rotterdam's nightlife" in the series Powerful Women, Strong City, we will reflect on her vision of the changing hospitality industry in a city that is always on the move itself.
Powerful Women Strong City
This city college is part of the Powerful Women Strong City program of the Rotterdam People's University. In 2025 it will be 50 years ago that the United Nations declared the International Year of Women. The Rotterdam People's University is no stranger when it comes to powerful women and female leadership. Ida van Dugteren was in charge of the day-to-day management of the Rotterdam People's University for no less than 40 years at a time (1918) when women were officially not allowed to be directors. Her story and that of many other women inside and outside Rotterdam symbolizes the progress we have made together. This year we bring these stories to life in the Powerful Women Strong City program.
