The Shawshank Redemption (1994) - 35mm

Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman are great opposites as two prisoners who become friends. The sophisticated script full of life lessons is based on a short story by Stephen King.

Banker Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) ends up in prison when he murders his wife and her lover in a fit of raging jealousy. In prison, he befriends the influential Red (Morgan Freeman). The banker manages to gain the respect of the guards and career criminals who make his life miserable, especially when he proves to be able to creatively keep accounts with tax returns and black money.

The Shawshank Redemption dueled with the 1970s classic The Godfather for the first place in the IMDb Top-250 for the Best Film of All Time for years, but has been at the top since 2008. However, the seven Oscar nominations were not cashed in. The film flopped upon release, but it got a second life in the years that followed via video rental stores, TV broadcasts and re-releases in the cinema.
