The Kik Bal Populaire

Songs of life, sentimental songs and tearjerkers

Songs of life, sentimental songs and tearjerkers: it was only a matter of time before The Kik, led by Dave von Raven, would venture into it. In the period in which all good atmosphere seemed to have disappeared for good, Dave built his own pub in his house. Belgian beers in dimmed light, Decap dance organ, a healthy dose of melancholy and towering piles of records by Johnny Hoes, Eddy Wally, Corry Konings and Johnny Jordaan. This formed the inspiration for writing an album full of songs of life. Songs in which cosiness and ambiance predominate, there is room for nostalgia and romance and where melancholy is always lurking.

The band The Kik consists of singer Dave von Raven, bassist Marcel Groenewegen, guitarist Arjan Spies, drummer Ries Doms and keyboardist Paul Zoontjens. The band has been operating from Rotterdam since 2011. In 2013, the band was the house band in the eighth season of De Wereld Draait Door. After which the band did many club tours and played festivals. In 2015, The Kik collaborated with Armand, resulting in an album and a true revaluation of the work of the protest singer. In 2019, The Kik played Boudewijn de Groot's first two albums live, resulting in two evenings in Rotterdam Ahoy. In addition to the album with Armand, The Kik has released four LPs with their own work, two albums with retranslated songs and a live album of Boudewijn de Groot material. In addition, Dave von Raven is a welcome guest on radio and TV. In recent years, The Kik has regularly been the house band at Beau on RTL.
