The Gap
The Gap is a short film that emerged from a series of workshops with students during an artist residency at Instituto Buena Bista (IBB) on the island of Curaçao.
The film follows two main characters, Jane and Rey, who find a message in a bottle on the beach. As they read the message and try to understand its meaning, their conversation leads to personal reflections and associative thoughts. The result is a vibrant, sun-drenched film poetry that explores the subjectivity of language and images.
Helen Anna Flanagan is an artist working in video, performance, writing and installation. She investigates social structures and the political undertones of the everyday, with a focus on affect and emotion, labour and the body.
