Director Brady Corbet (Vox Lux, 2018) returns with an epic tale starring Adrien Brody as Jewish-Hungarian architect László Toth, who flees Europe at the end of World War II to rebuild his life in America.
Visionary architect László Toth leaves post-war Europe for America to make a fresh start in his work, his life, and his marriage to his wife Erzsébet (Felicity Jones) after they were separated by changing borders and regimes during the war. Arriving alone in a strange new land, László settles in Pennsylvania, where wealthy industrialist Harrison Lee Van Buren, played by Guy Pearce, recognizes his talent for building. Van Buren commissions him to create a new monumental project, Toth’s dream come true, but he must increasingly sacrifice himself to complete his demanding vision.
The Brutalist is a hugely ambitious project for Corbet, once again working with co-writer Mona Fastvold. Adrien Brody delivers a powerful performance as a man trying to reconstruct his life, his love, and his home, all as part of the same process.
