Teun Creemers Naamu
In Naamu, Dutch bassist Teun Creemers and his bandmates masterfully combine their love for traditional West African music with jazz and groove music. Very danceable!
Sparkling African grooves, driven by the driving and swinging bass of bandleader and initiator of Naamu, Teun Creemers. From his love for West African music and jazz, he brings together musicians from the Netherlands and Mali for what he calls 'Malinke Groove Jazz': an overwhelming mix of styles. Powerful Malian voices and instruments such as the kamale n'goni merge here with familiar jazz instruments such as the saxophone and electric guitar.
In 2024, the band had a successful tour with Malian singer Kankou Kouyaté. This year, they will tour again, this time with her and the internationally renowned master balafon player Mamadou Diabaté from Burkina Faso as special guests. The line-up consists of drums, percussion, kamale n'goni, saxophone, guitar, bass guitar, balafon and vocals.
Together they create a sound that is both authentic and powerful, perfectly reflecting the energy and soul of their album. The album Naamu was received with worldwide acclaim, with positive reviews in leading media such as Songlines (UK), Trouw (NL) and Musicmaker (NL). In addition, the album was nominated for a prestigious Edison Award in the Global category in 2023.
