Sunrise Trio modern jazz
The Sunrise trio performs their show Silent Film Meets Modern Jazz in Cafe Dox.
The Sunrise trio will perform their show Silent Film Meets Modern Jazz in Cafe Dox. For this concert, the trio wrote original music for the Oscar-winning classic Sunrise: A Song of TwoHumans by director FW Murnau. A unique show where modern jazz and classic cinema meet.
Sunrise won three Oscars at the first Oscar ceremony in 1929. The first American film by expressionist F.W. Murnau is still considered one of the best films ever. When a farmer falls in love with a woman from the city, he threatens to leave his family. He is prepared to kill his wife to go with her. At the moment of truth, he decides not to do it and to stay with his wife. Now he must try to regain his wife's trust.
Live music
The Sunrise Trio is a modern jazz trio consisting of Jurriaan de Kok on double bass, Martijn Hak on piano and Jonas Nieuwenbroek on drums. The band navigates seamlessly between moments of intimacy, silence and powerful energy. This creates a dynamic musical journey with plenty of room for interplay and improvisation. They explore styles that go beyond jazz with influences from funk and metal, among others. The Sunrise Trio is therefore not only influenced by the famous piano trios of Bill Evans, Brad Mehldau, AhmadJamal and Esbjörn Svensson, but also by bands such as Rammstein and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
