Sungazer

Would they listen to jazz on another planet? If so, it’s easy to imagine the music of Sungazer. The duo formed by YouTuber and bassist Adam Neely and drummer Shawn Crowder started out in 2014 in Brooklyn, New York, with a form of futuristic jazz that sounds comfortably familiar at the same time. They play with time and space in songs that lie somewhere between jazz improvisation and early experiments with electronic music. Yet their album Perihelion sounds very 21st century, or even beyond. The duo has a feel for the dance floor, but when there is a straightforward dance beat, it’s only for a few bars. Sungazer’s futuristic, electronic jazz is never predictable, always exciting.
