su nichel
Su Nichel is an international collective from Rotterdam. It was founded by bassist Dean Montanaro and drummer Andrea Carta. Their drive lies in making music that can remind people of the power of childlike wonder and imagination.
The band strives for their own sound and their music is also rich in ethnic influences, partly due to their different cultural backgrounds. From the lively, hectic syncopated beats of Andrea Carta to the soft, reminiscent melodies of Qualsevol Nit, a Spanish lullaby, or the 12/8 mantra that goes: Venolouma, an arrangement of a song by Aka People.
Among their better known influences we can count the drummer Mark Guiliana and the Swedish double bass player Petter Eldh. They present their first CD Deeds of a Rascal in the Fruitvis. Su Nichel is "blue, red, purple" "Don't think! Feel colours in your mind".
Occupation
Cosimo Gentili, soprano and alto sax; Paul Van De Calseijde, tenor sax; Miran No, piano; Dean Montanaro, electric bass; Andrea Carta, drums.
