The Rotterdam string orchestra Verse Vis plays together with an occasional jazz quintet led by jazz violinist Jasper le Clercq. String orchestra Verse Vis emerged from the first edition of Jazz & Strings in 2022 at Jazz in de Fruitvis. That project was so successful that the initiative was taken to turn the ad hoc ensemble into a semi-permanent string orchestra under the name “Verse Vis”, which for this edition consists of 14 members in addition to Jasper. The orchestra focuses on playing jazz and improvised music. They play together with an occasional quintet consisting of piano, bass, drums, trombone and vocals. The program consists of pieces composed and arranged especially for this line-up by Jasper le Clercq, Bart Egeter and Oene van Geel, among others. The string players use new playing techniques, allowing the orchestra to not only produce a full string sound, but also to groove. Together with the quintet they will provide a colourful, exciting and unique concert of string orchestra with jazz quintet and jazz quintet with strings!
