Sex

Two chimney sweeps, both heterosexual and happily married, examine their lives and sexuality. When one tells of an unexpected sexual encounter with a man, candid conversations ensue about desire, identity and the social norms that shape their lives.

Sex is the first film in a trilogy by Norwegian writer and director Dag Johan Haugerud, which explores the themes of desire, identity and the social norms that shape our sexuality. The film follows two heterosexual men who, despite their happy marriages, are confronted with unexpected sexual experiences that challenge their views on sexuality and gender. This leads to candid conversations about their feelings, desires and the social expectations that shape their lives.

Haugerud, who wanted to create the trilogy to explore the complexities of sexuality and love in a seemingly liberated Western society, filmed the three projects in different periods and locations in Oslo. Sex , which premiered at the Berlinale in 2024, explores how even in a society where sex is often seen as a product of love, people still struggle to discuss their sexual desires. The trilogy also addresses freedom and queerness from different perspectives.
