September 5

On September 5, we witness the moment that not only changed journalism forever, but continues to influence live news.

Set during the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, the film follows an American news team as it rapidly shifts from covering sports to reporting on Israeli athletes being held hostage. September 5 offers a new perspective on the live broadcast that was watched by an estimated one billion people worldwide at the time. At the center of the story is Geoff (John Magaro), a young, ambitious TV producer eager to prove himself to his boss, legendary editor-in-chief Roone Arledge (Peter Sarsgaard). Together with German interpreter Marianne (Leonie Benesch) and his mentor Marvin Bader (Ben Chaplin), Geoff is unexpectedly forced to take on the live reporting. As perspectives shift, time ticks away, conflicting rumors circulate, and the lives of the hostages hang in the balance, Geoff struggles with difficult decisions and is confronted with his own moral compass.
